Each year, Platte River Prep evaluates athletes who are committed to improving their skills, competing at a high level, and being positive teammates. Players from Kearney and across Central Nebraska are encouraged to attend tryouts and explore opportunities within the program.

  • What age groups does Platte River Prep offer teams for?

    Platte River Prep currently offers boys and girls travel basketball teams ranging from 3rd grade through high school. Team availability may vary each season based on player interest, coaching staff, and roster needs.

  • Does my athlete need previous travel basketball experience?

    Platte River Prep welcomes athletes with different levels of competitive experience. While some teams are highly competitive, our coaches focus on player development and helping athletes continue improving their skills and basketball IQ.

  • What is included with a PRP team?

    Platte River Prep team fees include jerseys, shorts, warm-up gear, experienced paid coaches, tournament registration fees, practice gym space, and opportunities to compete against quality competition throughout Nebraska and the Midwest.

  • How much does it cost to play on a Platte River Prep team?

    Platte River Prep team fees are currently $650 per player for the season. This fee helps cover coaching, uniforms, gym rentals, tournament registrations, and other program expenses.

  • When are Platte River Prep tryouts held?

    Platte River Prep typically hosts youth team tryouts during October and spring/summer team tryouts during March. Specific dates are announced each season and may vary depending on coaching availability and team needs.  

  • Are boys and girls teams available?

    Platte River Prep offers competitive travel basketball opportunities for both boys and girls. Current team offerings vary by age group and season, with additional teams added as coaching and player participation grow.

  • Do athletes need to live in Kearney to participate?

    Platte River Prep athletes do not need to live in Kearney to participate. Our Central Nebraska location makes it really easy for our parents to commute to events as needed versus long drives to Eastern Nebraska.

  • What areas do PRP teams travel to for competition?

    Platte River Prep teams compete throughout Nebraska and the Midwest against quality competition. Tournament schedules vary by team and age group, providing athletes with opportunities to gain valuable game experience.

  • How are coaches selected?

    Platte River Prep looks for coaches who are passionate about player development, fundamentals, leadership, and helping athletes grow both on and off the court. Many coaches have experience at the youth, high school, collegiate, or club basketball levels.
